I BEAT UP SLIMES FOR 300 YEARS: Another one of these waifu heavy animes heavy on comedy and implying everyone lives in a video game of some sort (but nobody seems to realize it). In this one, a girl literally works herself to death, so a shockingly benevolent god resurrects her as an immortal young witch. Intent on never over working again, she resolves to live a simple, easy life of beating up slimes and farming their mats. 300 years pass (somehow) and she's killed so many slimes she has reached lv.99 and has become the most overpowered character in the world. Cue whacky hijinx where numerous creatures challenge said witch, lose, and become her pupils from then on. Pretty typical silly waifu anime. Not as overboard, or funny, as dragon maid but sometimes you just need a quick laugh. Weirdly enough, it was actually my mom who found the show. Not me. I didn't know she even used Crunchyroll.

Then you'll like this: when I told my mom I was doing a Buffy RPG, she got upset because I didn't invite her to play. Apparently she wanted to play Willow.
So, yeah, after enjoying Fullmetal Alchemist, Sword Art Online and Tiger & Bunny, she's started hunting down animes on her own.
GIANT FIGHTING ROBOT BROS: A cartoon that just premiered on Netflix. Despite being a fairly typical odd-couple type story, the stakes are surprisingly high. Early on in the series it depicts a reporter being melted to the bone by acid, done Looney Toons style but still more graphic than your average kids show, and later when a group of parasitical robots invade the base we see them kill multiple soldiers and rip their heads and hands on. Again, all done in a "tasteful" comical style, but again, you just don't see this sort of thing in a kids' show. Throw in a few genuinely funny jokes that touch on historical and 90s references, and the mere presence of giant fighting robots (I love my giant robots) and overall it's not too bad a show.

Try Castlevania on Netflix. Your mum and you will thank me later.
You could always invite her when Samus gets back from his cat trapping? Is that a Canadian thing?

No, she won't. Gratuitous gore is definitely her limit. She leans more to the comedy side of things.
I found the series pretty dull. Guess you have to be a huge Castlevania fan to enjoy it.
lol Cat trapping a "Canadian" thing. More of an SPCA volunteer thing.

The fact it was a cat colony got me. I've never heard of trapping cats on that scale in Scotland.

KONOSUBA: Like the "I beat up slimes for 300 years" show. Once again, the main character dies and gets sent to a fantasy game-like world that operates like a video game except this time the character takes the god that sent him there. A couple goofy eccentrics join him and whacky hijinx ensues. The difference with this show it's less slice of life and more narrative driven story...with elements of slice of life. It also tends to be a lot funnier albeit way more crude. Did get this hilarious gif out of the show though:

You know, I know people appreciate that most anime studios don't seem to give a damn about movements demanding more censorship, but when an anime has a scene where the camera focuses exclusively on all of the girls' bikini clad boobs while they're talking, and one of those girls is twelve years old, you've got to wonder if SOME of the criticism is warranted.

THE LORD OF THE RINGS-THE RINGS OF POWER: After two episodes, I can't say I have seen anything particularly egregious yet. I know a lot of people are crying about the diversity casting, but, unlike The Wheel of Time, the costumes and make-up in Rings of Power have been distinctly setting appropriate. It's almost not noticeable the costumes and make-up have been so good. And, frankly, dark skinned dwarves work. Always have. And on that point, while much of the setting is pretty ho-hum so far, the dwarven scenes have been excellent. So far all we have ever seen are ruined dwarven cities, but now you get to see living ones and they look awesome.
So far the only things that have bothered me is this whole idea of Galadriel being this superhuman warrior, but then, maybe she always was and I never knew, and some pretty poor directorial decisions. It's not that good, but it's not that bad, either. I've seen far worse, and the costumes and set design more than makes up for it.

BEE AND PUPPYCAT (Netflix): A silly show that reminds me of how my sister's mind works...if it was all animated in Kirby's art style. Probably means little to most people, but to me, it's goofy fun.

SHE-HULK: I don't know what everyone is complaining about. The show is genuinely amusing and yet still manages to deliver some Marvel-style action. It's not the greatest thing ever, but it is entertaining and that's really all you need to be. The complaints about the CG is grossly exaggerated and just plain silly. Yes, it's not the best motion animation I've ever seen, but it's a frickin' TV series, not a top tier movie. It's still better than any CG you'd see in any other TV series anywhere else, and better than most movies.

The main problem I have with it, is it's blatant misanthropy, which is compounded by exceptionally poor writing. Credit where's due, the lead actress is pretty good, and does the best she can with what she's given. If you like it, then cool. I'm glad you found something you like.

Wait, what? What poor writing? It's no worse written than your average TV sitcom, and a show about women complaining about men has always been a thing. I'm not seeing anything exceptionally egregious aside from the pointless 4-wall breaking dialogue which serves no function and isn't remotely funny.

Tara Strong is suggesting the original Mario voice actor for the games should have got the part over Pratt, then suggests Hollywood tends to be unfair to TV actors. Good for her.

Okay, the finale of She-Hulk was stupid. They went full Deadpool at the end, instead of resolving all of the plotlines in the show they had her literally jump out of the TV and talk Kevin Feige into changing the ending to suit her for blah blah blah reasons (not political; more of a dig at whiny Marvel fans). Most of the show was tolerable because women blaming men for all of their problems is actually par for the course for any show like this, even 30 years ago.
On the bright side, we got more Daredevil and it seems pretty obvious at this point that Disney really does want to bring Daredevil into the greater MCU.

AMPHIBIA: I'm not sure if the Star Vs. or Gravity Falls people did this show, but it's very similar in tone and style of the two, feeling cartoony at times but never quite straying from some surprisingly dark themes. The number of times the characters mention killing each other or dying in some way is downright shocking for a supposed kids' show. Still early but eagerly awaiting the point the story moves away from early kiddish stuff and starts getting really good much like how GF and Star did.

Amphibia was definitely made by the Gravity Falls people. There was an entire episode dedicated to Gravity Falls. Shame the guy who did Gravity Falls when on to do Inside Job. He says that's the story he has always wanted to do, which means he has always wanted to do a story about a foul mouthed girl doing stupid and raunchy, totally unfunny, shit. Inside Job was cool at first, but it eventually turned into American Dad except the ridiculous CIA stuff never stops.
THE DRAGON PRINCE, CURRENT SEASON: Was on par with previous seasons. Not remotely disappointing. Was never that good in the first place. It's always been silly animated fun.
HAWKEYE: This was actually pretty good. The show managed to capture the feel of the Daredevil Netflix series. Fitting, I suppose, given the final encounter was against the Kingpin played by the same guy from Daredevil. This version of Kingpin was the classical Marvel version with super strength and less raw menace than the one from Daredevil, but I guess it's hard to be menacing when you're trying to maintain a PG13 rating.
THE MIGHTY DUCKS SN.2: I was expecting a show minus Emilio Estevez to suck, but the second season is actually better than the first. Nothing really new here, but I found myself binging this one on in one night. My mom did the same when she started watching it. She decorated her Christmas tree with it running in the background.
ANDOR: I don't see why people like this so much. It's very slow so far, but I did hear it was more a slow burn. I am impressed by the show's production and audio direction. Despite NOT using distinct Star Wars scores and visual styles, the show still feels convincing and the soundtrack works great for this slower, grittier take on the universe. I wouldn't be surprised if someone from the Bladerunner or new Dune movie worked on this. One annoying thing so far: the show implies the Empire was brought down mainly because a bunch of old white guys didn't listen to the one woman trying to warn them of an impending rebellion. I'm guessing that's Kennedy's influence.
I've been watching more Disney stuff, but none of it has been worth mentioning. The new Night at the Museum was kids stuff, the new Willow is just a CW show with a higher budget, etc.

BUZZ LIGHTYEAR: Not bad, although it is a bit weird how they present all this badass space ranger stuff, but then the story proceeds as a fairly standard family friendly romp. The guns in the movie are surprisingly cool looking. I wouldn't say the movie would have been a waste of money if you saw it in a theater, but it's definitely nowhere near as good as Pixar used to be.

SONIC PRIME: This is not a bad as I was expecting. Even more surprising, all of the new voice actors actually do a good job sounding very similar to the classical characters. Of note is Ashleigh Ball's performance as Tails. At first I thought hearing someone else do Tails would be rough, but Ball not only nails it when she really wants to, but she also manages to make him sound more mature, like the classic Tails. Just older.

THE OWL HOUSE: Yet another excellent series from the Gravity Falls/Star Vs. people. So far I find this show significantly better than Amphibia which had its moments but did tend to swing back into kiddy territory on a few too many occasions. The characters are far more interesting on average, save for the main character who is about as generic as they come, and the story is very balanced without ever feeling like just some cartoon. It's a straight adventure series that falls well inline with Harry Potter or Little Witch standards.
