Finally retiring MLP. The new series isn't great, but at least it advanced some of the stories presented in the original show. Then in the second season they completely dropped those stories and now many important characters have been outright changed into something unrecognizable.
Having trouble finding something new to watch. I've been mostly rewatching shows I've already seen. Lately rewatching/replaying old stuff has been my jam. Having so much fun with Ogre Battle I'm having trouble caring about anything new.

THE ORDER: Something something werewolves and wizards...something something college kids...eh, when the core of a show is just teen angst and the fantastical elements are purely a backdrop, it's hard to pay attention.

The final season of Lucifer feels awfully fanfictiony so far.
*And also very Netflix'd. Every episode touches on some kind of political message so far.

Lucifer ends with him returning to rule hell, except now he serves more as a therapist focusing on redeeming souls rather than just torturing them.

HE-MAN (2021): Better than that OTHER show.
Well, okay, I don't really know. I didn't watch the other one out of principle. Anyway, while I'm sure a lot of people are annoyed with the art style of the new show, it actually has some excellent production values, probably the best I've seen yet on Netflix, and I kind of like how much of the tone and delivery of the show feels exactly like a classic JRPG. It's all pretty campy, being a kid's show and all that, but I do like some of the character changes like Teela being turned into a techno-wizard or how the talking tiger isn't just some coward, but a fatherly veteran with no claws. The villains aren't just a bunch of idiots, but actually nasty characters who aren't afraid to kill anyone in their way (and they do). It's still rather silly, but that's still a good step up from the original show.
*Okay, may have spoke too soon. With the arrival of Skeletor the show has suddenly changed to feel more like Power Rangers or one of those magical girl shows where all the super friends power up to defeat monsters with a single powered swipe. It was actually more interesting when Skeletor was actually a human necromancer and his "minions" were more like former compatriots who had become jaded with the whole rebellion thing and were now just looking to get paid, and He-man and friends were more like a plucky cast from a JRPG. I still like the tiger though.

CHAPELWAITE: Yet another show based on a Stephen King story (fun fact: I live on Stephen King street, lol). This one features a ship captain and his family moving to an 1800s town fueled by paranoia after a disease and strange killings begin haunting the town. Naturally, they blame the new family of brown skinned people. It was actually somewhat interesting at first, but has since turned into a blah vampire story. Was fun to learn Julian Richings lives nearby though.

It's based on a short story which is sorta a sequel to Salem's lot, so yeah vampires. I say based, as it's looking like they haven't followed the original story at all, based on your description.

It started out all right. Captain starts to go crazy when all these bizarre hallucinations plague him, and the nearby insane asylum informs him his family is genetically susceptible to going mad. The town constantly harasses him as well. And there is this whole history of his family with the town and all of the villagers have their own experience with the previous owner of Chapelwaite. It's pretty screwed up. You're kind of cheering for the guy and hope he will cleanse the house and redeem his family's reputation...and then you realize he might just go crazy after all which puts the viewer in a weird spot where you might have to accept it's better he does die. Very Stephen King.
But, oh, wait, he's not going crazy. It's just some vampires running around with a magical book giving him nightmares because...eh, they've got nothing better to do.

This one is actually prequel not a sequel. I always get that one mixed up with "one for the road". They aren't trying to drive him mad for no good reason. I think possibly the writers have done a poor job of setting up what they need to, for the payoff. I know what they're trying to do, but I read the story. It's worth a read. You can find it in "night shift" if you have the time. Yeah, I used to read a lot of Stephen King back in the day.

GHOSTS: A comedy featuring a girl who can see ghosts starring the woman from iZombie. Kind of blah so far. Not very funny and hardly noteworthy in any respect, but I've got so many dark shows on my plate right now it's just nice to have something more lighthearted. It's not terrible and I do like the dead Viking which is kind of different for a show like this.

Think I'm only going to mention shows I actually somewhat like from now on and not bother mentioning the ones that suck.
STAR TREK PRODIGY: Star Wars...I mean, Star Trek Prodigy sees a group of alien kids take control of a Federation ship as part of a plan to escape their captors. Obviously more family orientated, and fully animated. Captain Janeway appears as the hologram advisor.
This is a funny case because it's one of those things where it feels all wrong as a Star Trek show, but feels just right as a Star Wars show. The environments are colourful, the aliens incredibly fantastical, the robots highly imaginative, and there is definitely some space magic going on. The adventures are totally Star Wars in feel and execution. I'd say it was done by the same studio that did Clone Wars, but it was produced by Nickelodeon...unless Disney dumped that studio for some reason.
Anyway, not as good as Clone Wars or Rebels, and certainly not Star Trek, but still...kind of amusing.

I really dislike new star trek. Unfortunately the production company have an ironclad contract to keep producing star trek. The franchise for me, is essentially a zombie right now.

CHUCKY, THE TV SERIES: The whole Chucky storyline is a distant second to all the woke stuff going on.
BLADERUNNER, BLACK LOTUS: Drops the entire premise that made the Blade Runner universe unique for your typical anime shlock. She's a girl, she's a robot and she knows it, she's lost her memory, and she's good at using katanas to beat up criminals. Same old, same old. Puke worthy writing, too.
THE WHEEL OF TIME: The diversity casting is the least offensive aspect of this show. The show poo-poos all over the books, makes all sorts of changes, removes areas, has skipped multiple important characters, and has all sorts of writing snafoos. If you're a fan of the books, don't watch this show. It's impossible to enjoy otherwise.

THE LOST SYMBOL: Another story in the DaVinci Code universe, this one a TV series. It's okay, but there's really not enough there for a series. It works as a movie, but as a series it ran thin way too quickly.
LOST IN SPACE (final season): Although not my favourite show, it has been consistently good. It's more Star Trek-y than the new Star Treks have been.
The Wheel of Time wrapped up much in the same way FF7R did: by presenting a completely different ending than the first book did. I was still getting some joy in seeing the fantastical locations brought to life, but if the showrunner is doing their own thing from here on, I doubt I will watch it. They're terrible writers and I have no faith in the original material.

I think the witches is going to have the same problem really. I think the showrunner is going to really stamp all over it in the third season, and I think the second season is showing warning signs of that

GHOSTBUSTERS-AFTERLIFE: I wasn't too impressed by this. They drop a lot of the goofy comedic tone and unique style of previous movies for a generic "coming of age" story of some sort. Not a bad movie, just not what I wanted. The after credits scene was very promising though as it suggests the containment system at the original location is about to fail.
INSIDE JOB: Rick & Morty meets Men in Black. In this case, the show assumes all wacky conspiracy theories are true. Interesting premise, not the greatest execution. The stories are fun but it's not exceptionally funny.
MURDERVILLE: A murder mystery show starring Will Arnett that focuses on challenging guest stars to solve the show's mystery, it's more of a game show than an actual drama. Although it's fun seeing Conan O'Brien or Ken Jeong and the like improving their way through a murder mystery while Arnett tries to make them say stupid thing, it's ultimately not very funny.

I'm trying to restrict myself to mentioning only shows that are actually good from now on, but I will mention Vox Machina an anime based on a run of D&D games. So basically some people made an actual series based on an actual D&D campaign. It's awful and horribly crass, sort of like if Seth Rogen made a fantasy show. I like to think the stories I've made based on our games are way, way better.

The SJW Awards are on tonight, which means I don't have the TV, so I caught up on some Netflix.
SUPER CROOKS: A superhero anime that focuses on a team of crooks trying to steal a magical item. It's basically a heist show except the heroes are supervillains, the villains are, well, superheroes, and the goal is to steal superhero gear. Not particularly exceptional, but it did have some good ideas. I liked the idea of a superhero "network" that uses social media for fast response rather than singular teams and all the troubles that can result from it if the superhero who responds is necessarily very superheroic.
I'm trying to avoid mentioning anything I didn't like anymore, so I have nothing else to add. I am watching Star Trek: Next Generation now as my "filler" show and Law and Order, although I often prefer Star Trek. Law and Order is good, but it's generally depressing.

MAYA AND THE THREE: Surprisingly action packed animated series based on Mayan culture. Little heavy on the female empowerment stuff, but still cool.
SONIC THE MOVIE 2: Always nice to see Tails, but Carrey doesn't have nearly the same presence the second time around and a lot of the things that made the first movie great aren't present in the second. Knuckles, however, is surprisingly well done and comes off as a badass.

HALO: Came with Sonic 2, so I gave it a shot. It's actually not as bad as many people say. I mean, yes, it shits all over the Halo universe, and I don't say that lightly given how much it changes to check off the boxes, but it's not as bad as, say, Wheel of Time. Unsurprisingly, the ACTUAL original voice actress for Cortana nails the character so hard, naturally, that her appearance along makes all the difference in the world. Once Cortana appears, the show becomes watchable so long as you fast forward through all of the lame political intrigue shit. And, yes, the effects are terrific. No denying they did a terrific job with props, vehicles, and enemy design.

HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON-THE NINE REALMS: Brings the How to Train Your Dragon franchise into the modern world, albeit still maintaining the rural feel of the main series by taking place at a geological research station deep in the countryside. Not a bad show. Returns to the original idea of giving the dragons cat and dog-like tendencies and the new stories frees the writers of all the baggage the original show built up over the years. I dunno. I just couldn't get into the show like I did the movies.
DEAD PLACES: Follows a team of ghost hunters in South Africa. So far not too bad. Ironically, the weakest aspect of the show is that it feels like your average every day North American TV show and makes no real effort to feel distinctly African.
CURSED FILMS: A show that examines movies that were notoriously considered "cursed". Most of the "curses" involved simple production accidents and a lot of cut corners, but there are some genuinely creepy and disturbing episodes. By far and away the most awful episode is the one exploring the Twilight Zone movie incident. In many ways a terrible series...if you like your shows dark and disturbing and the show succeeds at that.
