Are those the projects to recreate the previous two games using Skyrim's engine? If so, I don't know. It's doubtful that I will see the results alas.

Of course this play, I went Vampire Lord on the Dawnguard missions. Surprisingly fun. You get some abilities well before you'd get then as spells(Corpse Curse is a bizzarely named paralyse). Vampirism now has good trade-offs for weaknesses.

I never really got into the vampirism thing, too difficult to move around during the day, and the werewolf abilities were pure crap. Totally unbalanced at higher levels. I suppose the werewolf tree fixes it.
Maybe I'll give it a go if they get around to releasing that Skyrim remaster. Lots of whispers about it and Bethesda doesn't normally appear at E3 unless they have a lot to announce.

I have a strong feeling we might be heading to the Altmer islands. Morrowind foreshadowed Oblivion, and Oblivion foreshadowed Skyrim. The Thalmor thread was kinda left dangling in Skyrim. Which is fine, as it would be my 2nd choice if I can't have Elsweyr. Met High King Torygg in the nord afterlife. He was brave, and the tragic thing is it's inferred Ulfric could have persuaded him to declare independence. It's the fact Ulfric kills him without trying to talk to him, is one of the reasons why the imperial Jarls say Torygg's death was murder. I've always gone imperial in the civil war. I might go stormcloak with my new Orc bezerker. Assault On The Dragon is a mission with a rather grim backstory if you look for it. The dragon priest expected his followers to kill themselves, and those that didn't, were murdered.

I'm betting it will be a remake/revisit of the second game. There have been rumours that Bethesda has wished to revisit the second and there have been a lot of fan requests for a return to High Rock. Orsinium would work well as the "mini" expansion too. At the very least, it could be a New Vegas thing.
I'd much rather go to Summerset though.

The Dragonborn's eventual implied fate is quite sad. He's either going to be Miraak's replacement, or be locked in conflict with Mora. Of course the Oblivion hero became Sheogorath, and it doesn't look like much was left.

I don't remember if you played through Dawnguard, but the main villain's plan is just plain stupid.

Haven't played it. What's his plan?

Basically Mr Vampire Lord wants to use what is my favourite bow(it's made by the elven god version of Akatosh) to blot out the sun permanently. Which is stupid as it would eventually kill off the people they feed on. It isn't even like the sun is a huge hinderance anyway. The kicker is, the elder scroll that set this in motion, was written by a snow elf priest vampire, to get back at Auriel for abandoning him when he got turned into a vampire.

Well, at least they're making heavier use of the Elder Scrolls. For the franchise's namesake, you didn't see them much in previous games.
As for Mora, the idea that mortals are just playthings for the gods has always been a key theme in ES.

Well in this game, you pick up 3 scrolls. One as part of the main line, and the Dawnguard. As for Mora, yes I know. It's still a sad fate for the Dragonborn.

Skyrim has procedurally generated dungeons? Wha? I played through it 4 times and the dungeons were the same every time.

The only things that differed when you returned was the loot in chests, and the enemies if you levelled up. The only two dungeons I remember changing, were the ones that were involved with Hircine and Malacath's quests.

An interesting factoid. Lynda Carter(TV's Wonder Woman!!!!!), does some of the Nord and Orc voices. Given her husband is the CEO, perhaps that helped.

I'm sure it did, but the voice acting is pretty good in Skyrim (not so much the directing), so I'm not going to knock them.

Oh I am not knocking it, far from it. It feels a step up from Oblivion. I think it's a cool factoid which is why I mentioned it. Horror Channel is rerunning it, and I was curious enough to wiki Lynda Carter.

Huh. Lydia is the Jarl's niece.

It's funny how much extra support she got throughout the game's lifetime. She even got tons of extra specialized responses for the various DLC's.
Now, I understand why. She is the first companion you get and everyone picks her up at some point, so most players found no need to switch her out, plus all of the Jarl companions are pretty solid all around fighters. I hear that one guy with the scimitars is actually very good overall. I think they even buffed Lydia a bit too.
But I wish they did a little something to encourage you to try new people like have Lydia state she is only available for a short while and encourages you to find someone else because she needs to return home in case the dragons attack again or something. No big deal, but grabbing followers is part of the fun but the game doesn't give you much incentive to actually look.
But I generally have issues with any game where you essentially NEED a guide to discover everything there is to know about a game's core mechanics. It would be nice if you could examine a follower's stats before you recruited them. I've played games that have stats sheets pop during recruitment conversations so that you can study them before recruiting.
Btw, I don't count DLC followers. They're almost always OP for the sake of justifying the DLC's cost.

Oh housecarl wise I used Jordis and Rayya more. Jordis was more eye-candy. Rayya was the only dual-wielder. I agree there should be some sort of stat-viewer for the followers. I remember taking the guy from Kynesgrove, and he kept dying. Then I discovered that he had the lowest level cap. He got dumped back in Kynesgrove.

Yeah, even more annoying than the lack of stats is hidden stats affected by mechanics you would never know about unless you researched. The way followers gained levels was wonky, and you'd never know some characters had weird level caps based on their abilities. It's weird how often seemingly innocuous characters had such high level caps and vice versa.

One good thing was crafting arms & armour for them increased their survival against enemies beyond their level cap. Kharjo was able to adventure with me for a lot longer, thanks to the legendary enchanted equipment I made for him. Hell I could tell you stories about him and my Dunmer. Kharjo's finest moment was landing a killing blow on a Legendary Dragon. Yes, Kharjo is one of my favourite followers and one of the few I craft equipment for. Completed the DB questline again. Sadly there isn't the option to let Astrid die of her burns. Quite liked Nazir. Didn't care much for Babette.

I never really got into the followers. They're either so good that they steal kills from me or they're just meatshields, which is okay, but often get killed BY ME because they're in my way. The only option to solve both problems is to use the invincible followers, but they have a funny issue where they constantly get you stuck in places, or they become hostile which is far, far worse than just killing them.

So, other than the Dragonrend shout, what shouts do you use regularly?

Post by TG Barighm on Nov 13, 2016 17:50:31 GMT -5
The one that stopped time. It was useful for every build. I thought it would be great for spellcasting too, but I think there is some kind of damage debuff when you do that. I thought it would pair well with that top tier lightning spell given it allows you to focus the spell on targets for a good bit with impunity, but I actually found I did little damage that way. In fact, that top tier lightning spell does surprisingly little damage given what it does. I actually killed targets faster with the chain lightning spell. It goes off so fast and accurately, so it's more reliable.
I also used that assassin's mark or whatever it's called shout. The one that severely weakened targets. Easy to get and severely weakens targets. I actually stop myself from getting the final tier of that one. It makes the game way too easy.
There's a PS4 mod for the remastered version that adds like 300 spells to the game. That should help make spellcasting more interesting.

Slow Time and the coolly named Marked For Death are the ones you're thinking of, and indeed two of the best. Storm Call was cool, but impractical. Use any of the Dragon Priest Masks?

I used them more for practical purposes. They were very situational. The resistance masks were good against specific targets. The alchemy one for when I was brewing. The carry capacity one for when I was in a jam. The spellcasting ones for my wizard depending on which I needed more.
I don't remember settling on one particular mask. There was no one universal mask.
