Actually, Fallen Order seems to be doing very well and has broken multiple internal sales records at EA.
And I was just joking about the fanboy comment, but I read another article and it turns out there REALLY IS a council of sorts whose sole purpose at Lucasfilm is to determine what properties are worthy of being dubbed canon.

Finished Fallen Order. By the end of the game, the Souls-like stuff goes out the window since you have so many powers and abilities by that point it's far too easy to just push enemies off ledges or pull them for executions. It's actually a pretty clever contrast of RPG mechanics, going from pure hack and slash and being super careful with your strikes to flinging enemies all over the place by the end. The story also gets way more interesting, although it's a shame that it takes so long for it to become more compelling.

I think that I'll enjoy it when I do get it. Shaolin Warrior. Essentially a 90s shooter made with today's tech. Not a bad thing. Apparently a remake. Has a sequel which I may pick up if it's cheap.

HALO REACH PC: Kind of hard to enjoy because my controller isn't working right. Also, there are definitely more cheaters on PC than on consoles.

CHILDREN OF MORTA: Technically a rogue-like, but it shares more traits with Diablo than most rogue-likes. Sure, dying forces you to restart a dungeon, but there are lots of ways to power up your heroes between dungeon delves and the game doesn't seem to be as obsessed with limiting your power like other rogue-likes tend to be. You're also not expected to clear the ENTIRE game in one run. Each dungeon is a separate deal. And there are lots of class types with lots of abilities to level. I'm finding rogue-likes are much more tolerable when every run results in a distinct improvement in power rather than costing you everything save for maybe one item you can kinda use and feeling like a huge downer.

So JFO. I'm enjoying it mostly. Not crazy on some of it. Particularly the platforming parts. Still getting used to the combat. I doubt I would like dark souls as any harder I would find JFO frustrating. It's nice to have Star Wars competently done for a change.

Fallen Order's combat isn't nearly as polished as Souls, but that doesn't matter very much once you start getting a few force powers. It's more akin to Sekiro than Souls. Souls is more straightforward and much easier to break.
One tactic I didn't realize would work until late in the game: you can parry creatures. I don't know why I assumed you could only parry weapons, but you can pretty much parry anything that isn't a "red" unblockable move. Game got much easier when I figured that out.

PERSONA 5: I'm not fond of Persona's style of storytelling, but I decided to give this a shot since it was so cheap. Ended up being annoyed by this graphical effect you see when you're in the dream world. They "fog" the borders of the screen, kind of like fogged glasses. I kept feeling like rubbing my eyes while playing. Nothing really wrong with the game aside from that, very stylish and all, but I'm just not into the Persona franchise...and constantly feeling like I need to rub my eyes.

Looks like Fallen Order is on pace to sell through 10 million units.

Guess that means EA can't say single player games aren't profitable anymore. Second sister is going to be the padawan of Ceres, right? Or have they done something clever?

Clever? Heh.
No, it's Ceres' padawan. One of the story's major criticisms was how obvious that is.

Second sister is actually fairly interesting as a character now I got to the fight and she did the origin story.

She doesn't show up until the very end of the game, so I didn't want to elaborate on her too much.
Finally got a physical copy of The Outer Worlds. Also got FF15 for free due to Game Pass. Not that I intend to play them to the exclusion of everything else, mind you.

Probably because of the Netflix series that released a few months back. Heard the game is fairly mediocre.

Final Fantasy 15: Now, I have tried it before, but I have always said that I would play it properly if I ever got it for free or something. Showing up on Game Pass is essentially that, so now I'm really giving it a shot. So far nothing has really changed. The plot is stupid. The characters are generic anime tripe except for maybe Ignis. The early open world gameplay is dull as dishwater. I thought just doing the hunts would be more fun, but the hunts are all generally the same, just repeating the same groups of monsters, and your tactics in combat are always the same: what you do at higher levels is no different from what you do at lower levels. The combat system is pretty cool in general, but its initial charm has quickly worn off due to how tedious and frustrating some elements are. Everything else has at least one glaring design flaw to ruin it (like on the map, clicking a location doesn't move your cursor to that location; I fast traveled to the wrong location dozens of times before I realized what I clicked and where I clicked wasn't the same; game is also the buggiest FF ever). With games like Control and Outer Worlds sitting on my shelf, it's getting harder than ever to keep going. There is one thing FF15 does incredibly well: chocobos. No game does chocobos, and chocobo riding, as well as FF15 does. As soon as I got access to them, I got rid of that damn car. Riding and leveling chocobos is a delight.

DEATH'S GAMBIT: Now this game has really surprised me. I was under the impression it was a buggy disaster. I guess years of patches have ironed out most of the issues. While it's still kind of not all there as a 2D Souls-like/Metroidvania, it does have a lot of its own ideas that make it interesting such as earning rewards for depleting the boss' HP BAR rather than beating it entirely, so if you just almost beat it, you still get the exp. for doing so. I also feel the world is far better presented than Souls' world: the music is plentiful and pleasant, the environments are lush and colourful while still being dark and deathly when need be, the art is far more pleasing, and the game builds on its lore in far more interesting ways by triggering extra cutscenes whenever you die. I just find it more interesting when bosses gloat over killing you only to exclaim surprise when you come back to life to fight them which triggers even MORE story exposition. Just much easier to get attached to the characters when they actually do things and say interesting things rather than always griping about something and then running off to get themselves killed like they do in Souls.

So I finished fallen order. They got practically every single thing right. I even got so engrossed in Lightsaber construction, when I was in the later stages and had a lot of pieces, I realised I had spent well over an hour!:

Heh. I didn't care one iota except with the blade colours.
Yeah, when I heard Disney recently state that they're seriously thinking of ditching their previous plans for Star Wars movies and might create movies based on their current new properties, like the TV shows, video games, and The Old Republic, I began rooting for Fallen Order to become a basis for a new series. I mean, it wasn't exactly the greatest, but it does just enough new stuff (I know it's not unique in general, but for non-extended universe fans, it's new) that I'm rooting for it to get more respect.
I also really like Merrin's response to the robot. "I don't understand what you're saying". All this time I've been wondering how everyone seems to know what the droids are saying. That made me laugh.

Okay, looks like the issues with Death's Gambit extends beyond simple bugs. Seems like they pulled a No Man's Sky, with obvious cuts to content that was heavily advertised and a lot of lame in-game explanations for why tough tasks result in mostly useless gear or just...nothing. Like, at all. Even more weirdly, Adultswim, the publisher, sent special versions of the game to YouTube influencers that included a lot of this cool content. It's weird because this is a little indie game, not some massive AAA title, so why the game was sliced up for DLC considerations and pushed in this slimy way is...kind of bizarre.
Also, got a little tired of the game's goth tone. It's one thing to be infatuated with death, but then constantly suggesting life is meaningless and pointless over and over again...well, I get that's just how a deity like Death would think, but still...what a bummer. If I play this game again, I'd focus on skipping a lot of the cutscenes. On gameplay alone, it's fun how you can pick new builds and go through the game's challenges with entirely different abilities. Dead Cells is the better game, but I gotta say, you can't really choose how you go through it since it depends on what gear drops through each run.

DARKSIDERS GENESIS: The new Diablo-esque style action actually works pretty well even though I don't feel like it captures the feel of the series. There are no combo abilities, and much of the combat deals with blasting through waves of enemies rather than stylishly dispatching a pack, although now you have a fully fledged talent board that's filled in with loot you pick up. The new perspective makes the jumping puzzles horrible. Like all of the other Darksiders games, there is a little something about the game that makes it feel like it's not quite there. It has its charm, sure, but it's missing that magical "something", probably polish, that would make it feel like it belongs with other AAA games. As it stands, it's a solid entry for series fans-yay Strife!-but I wouldn't say it's much more than that.

Well, the graphics are certainly nice, but it plays like a completely different game. Plays very well, mind you, but if you're hoping for classic mode to recapture that old turn based style, stop. It doesn't. Voice acting was pretty lame, too, and the new soundtrack...well, I wish I could use the old one.
I say if you're going into this looking for a fun ARPG, you will certainly get that. If you're looking for a nostalgia trip, don't.

I'm probably not going to get it. FF7 is a game very close to my heart. We might not have met if I hadn't gotten it, as it piqued my interest in other games like it, which led to Rpgamer. I've heard they've made a few changes to it, which is dismaying. In hilarious news, a journalist is whining the demo is too hard. Learn to play games moron!
