For everything else DC related outside of Batman.
Krypton is a new show that focuses on the events of the ill-fated planet long before Superman came to be (his great grandparents). Sounded like an interesting concept, but so far it's been about saving Superman before he's born from the clutches of the world eating Brainiac. It's also been highly political so far with Adam Strange being the only real source of entertainment.
I also just saw Justice League. The new lighthearted tone actually worked against the movie. You can't just be all serious and dark and then suddenly make silly jokes...within the same movie. Way too often the characters would do something dark and serious and then follow it up with a joke. It was jarring.

Had not heard about that show.
The movie was inconsistent in tone. Nice that they used a lesser known villain but they lost something in making him animated. It was weird. They kind of ignored most of the previous film. Felt like a soft reboot.

It's not your imagination. Warner Bros. changed their tone with the franchise to compete with Marvel's more lighthearted form of storytelling. A lot of people called them out on it which they denied. Nobody believes them though.
They're not giving up. They've already announced their next dozen or so movies while Marvel has become more uncertain now that they're finishing up the current story arc.

Krypton is boring.
From the latest Deadpool 2 trailer:
Cable speaking to Deadpool: Says dark and moody stuff.
Deadpool replies: "So dark. So scary! You must be from the DC universe."

The asshats at Fox canceled Lucifer. Because of football and a desire to appease more to bible belters.
Thankfully, there's hope. Another show Fox canceled was picked up by NBC purely on fan outcry. This one might too.

Was the other show Brooklyn 99 by any chance? Looks like we are getting Krypton. Ad for it is kind of failing to sell it.

Yes. And Lucifer was saved by Netflix.
Saw a few episodes of Krypton. Boring. All political intrigue.

After a strangely long ad campaign we got Krypton. It is kind of meh. Got a feeling it might do a Supergirl and improve later on. It's just a shame DC don't use the creative teams from the animated movies for the live action stuff. It's the one area they are consistently kicking Marvel's arse at.

It doesn't improve. I watched about half the season and it's just political intrigue whereas Supergirl only needed a couple episodes to hit its stride (been crap ever since though). Every now and again there is some action, but there are some episodes where there is absolutely no action. And it's not particularly fascinating. It's fairly typical Romeo & Juliet "feuding families" stuff. The only fun character is strange.
Maybe I would have gave it more of a chance if I wasn't already watching all of the DC series that carry the entire week at the time. Felt like I needed to cut down on superhero shows and it was the easy choice.
I saw one of those DC animated movies for the first time just the other day. Pretty good. Normally I avoid them because there is just too much stuff going on that I don't know anything about, but Constantine is always a fun character and I always liked Zatanaa.

I really liked it. Can't really say I'm surprised, I'm just glad it got as far as it did. Birds of prey movie looks like it's going to be super woke. Joy. There's speculation that Jared Leto's Joker is dead in this movie. Given how he's jumped ship to Sony to play Morbius the living vampire, I wouldn't be surprised if it's true. Not a great loss. If Caeser Romero's depiction of Joker is better than yours, then perhaps it's time to send in a different clown.

So Birds Of Prey is reviewing badly. Frankly I'm not surprised, since the trailer, the thing that is supposed to draw you in, was shit. Although I heard warning bells when it was described as a feminist movie.

I don't think DC comics will be around in a couple of years, maybe sooner depending on how bad the virus gets and people cut back. Whilst they're likely doing better than Marvel on the comics front, the market is shrinking for both of them. I think there are a number of reasons for this. First of all cost. Comics are really too expensive now. Plus if you want the full story, you can't just buy one series, you have to buy them all. DC isn't as bad as Marvel at this, but it's part of the reason I don't spend as much as I used to. Secondly, wokeness and arrogant creators. Again DC isn't as bad as Marvel at this. One Marvel writer told fans to fuck off. However this combination leads to poor story telling, another reason to abandon comics. Thirdly, manga. More people are buying this instead of comics I don't expect Batman and all to disappear, but I think they'll be licenced out to Dark Horse.

You didn't say anything about the digital market. That's actually a much more feasible and sustainable medium for comics.

Whilst that is a viable way to reduce costs, it doesn't change the fact the actual market is shrinking, with many stopped buying them, and not enough new readers being attracted in. That coupled with DC's new direction when the relaunch happens, leaves me concerned.

It looks like DC comics are finally showing a bit of common sense by quietly shelving the woke reboot they had planned. Still might be too late but at least it's a step in the right direction.

Ruby Rose quit Batwoman, although it at best it might be more of a mutual thing. That would have given the CW the perfect excuse to cancel this flaming dumpster fire, but they didn't. So what are the show runners looking for in New lead actress? The ability to move an audience with her acting? Able to do stunt work? Willing to work long hours in Canada? Nope, she must be a lesbian.

Did Robin have a romantic relationship when he was running the Titans? Just started season 2 of Titans and it strikes me as weird.

Dick Grayson had a few. Tim Drake had a couple. Damian hasn't really, but given his age is around 10, that makes sense. He's been close to a couple girls friendship wise. Grayson was actually a scumbags in one storyline. He slept with Barbara then the morning after, invited her to his wedding to Starfire.

DC just dumped Diamond as their distributed. This is a good thing as Diamond is effectively a monopoly with all the major comic publishers as clients. They're a major reason why comics cost so much. Coupled with their shitty sales practises, it's no wonder the comic industry is in dire straits. Apparently the breaking point came when Diamond shut everything down without consulting their clients, and DC wanted to keep putting out comics. Given DC is about 30% of their business, and they're already in trouble, this could end Diamond.

I think I'm more confident of the direction of the DCEU since the owners of DC seem to be taking a more active role in running the company. They've ditched the super woke 5g reboot of the comics, and appear to be listening to fans
