So with the new one out I thought we would discuss the original trilogy. Favourite character? For me Tali all the the way. Garrus came a close second. I didn't like how they tried push Liara to be your love interest. Favourite class? Infiltrator. Especially in ME3. Favourite weapon? The Geth Javelin, or cover, what cover? Any Geth weapon really, but the Javelin is top banana. Favourite romance? Tali. I also enjoyed Miranda, though I know you are not a fan. Most used party member? Liara. Miranda in 2. Mechanically both too good not to use. Least used party member? EDI. Mordin in 2.

Uh...not that far off of from your list, actually.
Favourite characters: Tali and Garrus, both generally and romantically, although I say Wrex and Jack would have been more interesting if they were given more than one game to shine. Mordin has most of the best dialogue moments though.
Tali is such a sweety pie. Ashley is essentially my dad. Ugh...
Favourite class: Uh...can't say. I rushed through the first game because I disliked it so much. The second I played soldier with a brief dabble in engineer. In the third game, the ME3 multiplayer classes influenced my choice, plus the crew abilities kind of blur the lines a bit. Ultimately I had a blast (literally) with the Vanguard due to the biotic explosions. Vanguard + every defensive crew ability at once + Liara's blackhole with instant cooldown = OWN ALL THE BITCHES!!! Even on the game's hardest mode.
So...yeah, didn't really have a chance to settle on any one class. As for NPCs, Ashley mainly because fire grenades are radically OP against...well, everything. She can group with any other character and still be incredibly useful. My favourite class in the MP was the Batarian Soldier. Tough all around class with wrist mounted spikes that blew enemies to smithereens (not the most damaging way to use them, but watching things explodes was too funny), a terrific melee attack, and previously mentioned fire grenades.
Favourite weapon: Same deal. All I remember about the first game is how much I wanted it to end. The second I only really played my soldier, so I didn't try that many weapons. The third I'm spoiled by the multiplayer. I sure liked the Piranha shotgun. In the campaign, it's really more about the story, so you can roll with pretty much whatever, plus you don't even get to have most weapons until the end anyway. I dunno. Nothing really sticks out to me. Does grenades count?
I really like how the Viper looks though. Wish I had one to mount on my wall.
Favourite party: My parties always depended on the mission and the enemies I faced, so I didn't settle on just a few characters and never used anyone else. Ashley sure was useful in ME3 though. I remember Garrus being hard to bench in ME2. Think he had both a shield stripping ability and armor penetration ammo. There were few enemies he wasn't good against.
I used Jacob the least. He actually has some useful abilities, but he doesn't combo well and has too little HP to be a kickass Vanguard. I found him very useful in hard mode though. He's good early on for easily taking down grunts. Pulled enemies take a ton of bonus damage.

I'll be honest. Jacob wasn't my favourite character. Jack had pull and as soon as I got her, I never used him again. Hell if my Shepard had pull he got ditched quicker.

Yep. Same here, but you don't get Jack early on and in hard mode Jacob's ability to Pull multiple grunts can seriously weaken the enemy's attack. Not only that, but Jacob can use shotguns and the AI is very accurate at times. I often saw Jacob Pull a guy, wait for that guy to float over to him, and then one-shot the mook. Of course, I was too busy dealing with the un-Pullable targets to do it myself. It was much easier to focus on other guys knowing Jacob would kill any target he pulled.
But again, this is early on. After you get a few more characters, and the Collector Rifle (actually has the ammo to do something; the other guns in hard mode just blow their ammo too quickly and easily), Jacob doesn't get much use.

You have to admire the planning that went into this. All the minor details and characters tied together in the last game.

Imagine if the lead writer had actually stayed on and Bioware implemented the plan as they originally envisioned.

Yeah they dropped the dark energy stuff from Tali's recruitment mission in ME2.

Dark energy stuff?

Tali was investigating it on her recruitment mission. Apparently it was increasing the decay of the system's sun. It was built up to be a major plot element, but ME3 completely ignored it.

Andromeda's campaign has been MUCH better than I anticipated. Yes, it's horribly underpolished, and I don't think the ME formula translates perfectly to an open world setup, but, ultimately, this game plays closer to Dragon Age: Origins and other classic Bioware games than any other Bioware game made in years.

EA has finally acknowledged the demand for a remastered edition of the ME trilogy.
In the past, they have only said they don't do remasters, so their suggesting that the demand is too large to ignore is pretty significant.

New Mass Effect announced. Early speculation suggests it is based on the Destruction ending.

That's a shame, I liked the idea of people and sentient AI merging.

Well, it's too obvious, so I doubt that's what it will be about.

I made this reply to someone earlier:
It seems a lot of people believe "Destroy" is the only true and proper ending and everything else is actually a bad or evil option. I don't really care since I'm always looking at these things from the perspective of what would be more INTERESTING. In my mind, the Synthesis ending presents the most potential for new and interesting stories.
